Counselling: Counselling often addresses specific issues or life events, such as stress, relationship problems, grief, or career challenges. It is typically more short-term and solution-focused.
Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, delves deeper into emotional and psychological issues, aiming to uncover underlying causes of long-term problems.
Therapy sessions typically involve talking with your therapist about your experiences, emotions, and thoughts. The therapist will listen, provide feedback, and help you develop strategies to address your issues. Sessions are confidential and tailored to your specific needs.
Sessions will typically be 50 minutes long. Therapy sessions are held once a week, but the frequency can vary based on your needs and availability. Some clients may attend more frequently, while others might have bi-weekly sessions.
The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others might engage in therapy for several months or even years. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that suits your situation.
It is important that you feel comfortable in your session, for this reason you will never be forced to share anything that you are not ready to talk about.
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Therapists are bound by ethical and legal standards to protect your privacy. There are a few exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, which your therapist will explain.
